Chapter 15

Warmth still clung to their sweat-soaked skin, but that would soon slip away and leave the cool air to skim over them. Travis adjusted himself just a little—earned himself an irritated huff from Niko for disturbing him even in the slightest—so he could stretch his arm towards the fireplace.

“Try not to burn the place down,” Niko mumbled as he made himself comfortable again.

“Be quiet, kitten.”

It took two tries, but he flicked his index finger at the hearth and a spark landed on the logs, successfully igniting a fire. When he looked back, Niko, chin against his chest, watched him carefully. A very complicated expression filled his eyes. Clearly, a thought bounced around in his mind.

“What?” he asked. “What is it?”

Travis could see that thought shrinking in size. Getting smaller and smaller until it vanished altogether. Niko licked his lips and smiled with a slight shake of his head.

“Nothing,” he whispered, resting against Travis’s chest again. “Nothing at all.”
