Chapter 20

“I…I can’t believe it!” Tucker said finally. “Charity…Charity never told me the name of the vet who told her she could adopt Tripod. I…I never dreamed it would be you.”

Keenan had no words. He just stood and held Tucker in his gaze, his heart pounding, his mind swirling as memories of Tucker and him broke free and rushed forward—unfettered from where he’d kept them buried for so many years.

Charity had now risen and was holding Tripod up for her father to see.

“Look, Daddy. See! He’s only got three legs. One leg is gone, just like I told you.”

Tucker tore his eyes away from Keenan and looked at his daughter. “Yes…yes I see.”

“So, can we take him home? Please, please, please!”

Tucker looked back at Keenan. “Well, we’ll have to see what Dr. Hunter thinks, but it’s okay with me.”

“Oh, thank you, Daddy. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Charity hugged her father with one arm, squishing Tripod between them. Tripod didn’t seem to mind at all.
