Chapter 21

After he left, Keenan chuckled, I hope you’re right, he thought.

Keenan checked the time again. He was just about to start a text when an out-of-breath Tucker arrived at the table.

“Phew,” he said with a sharp exhale. “Sorry. Sitter was late, and then Charity decided she didn’t have enough pictures of Tripod for me to show you.” Tucker spread his arms. “But here I am!”

Keenan wasn’t sure if Tucker’s action was an invitation for him to stand and step into a hug, but he decided if it were just wishful thinking on Keenan’s part, doing so would create an awkward situation. He gestured for Tucker to sit down. “No worries. I’m just glad you’re here now. How’s Tripod doing?”

“Just great,” Tucker said as he slid into his chair. “What a gift you’ve given us. I haven’t seen Charity this happy in a long time.” He pulled out his phone and started to show Keenan pictures of the little dog and the little girl, along with animated descriptions.
