Chapter 14

Cool shadow enveloped him when Zeke finally got them into the small space. Haziel dropped like a stone onto the ground despite Zeke trying to let him down easy. Blood glittered in the dark when Haziel spun on his knees and crawled to the mouth of the cave. Palms pressed to the dirt, the angel rolled out the strange language Zeke had first heard him speak when he landed in Abaddon. The air warped, like heat waves rising from the asphalt, all around the opening.

Haziel collapsed in slow motion to the ground the second the last note was out of his mouth. Zeke picked his way forward, around Haziel’s bonelessly splayed body and wings. The light from outside streamed in best here anyway. Zeke pulled the cloak from his shoulders and rolled it up into a tube. He wished for a fully stocked hospital for a useless second. And Jim to help him with Haziel.
