While Haziel had helped him, the logistics angel had assembled Zeke’s gear for them into a big pack. He had no idea what all was in it, though he was sure Haziel would rattle off the list if Zeke gave the smallest hint he wanted to know. Zeke left it alone. He’d discover the full contents at some point.

Haziel thanked the other angel and hefted the pack over his left shoulder before Zeke made any motion toward it. Well, Zeke wasn’t about to argue. The move was telling, however. Haziel barely flinched under the added weight, but Zeke saw the stiffness in his right shoulder. His wing dropped a little bit more than it had when packing earlier. He stared at the injured limb for a long moment, until Haziel darted a confused, wrinkled look at him.

“What?” Haziel asked, defensiveness raising his musical voice to a higher pitch.

“Is your wing hurting?” Zeke took a step forward, hands already lifting between them.
