Because now he knew how much he was needed here. And he couldn’t leave Haziel behind. The thought alone closed up his throat with fear. His angel was needed here and Zeke was going to talk to him after this fight. Yes, his friends and family would miss him, but Haziel needed him more than they did. He needed Haziel.
The angels started to break into teams right there on the crest of the hill. The few carts with them were unloaded in no time at all and as Zeke stepped away to help, Peliel came over to him and Haziel, a grim look on his face.
“A meeting was called for the commanders. Phaneul has requested your presence,” Peliel said to Haziel. There was a note of dread in the words. Zeke didn’t like it when Haziel squeezed his elbow as he walked past, though Zeke appreciated the gesture. Peliel looked at him. “You as well, Zeke.”
Haziel’s wings flared back and partially unfurled in surprise. “Why does Phaneul want Zeke to come?”
