Chapter 28

While Colin wasn’t yet sober—nothing short of a good night’s sleep would be doing that for the little guy—Dexter knew he’d become much more himself when he needed to wrestle the kid to keep his hands off his cheese fries after Colin finished all his own food.

“Colin!” he laughed as those long fingers of his once again attempted to snatch up more of his fries.

“Ah, Dexter!” Colin whined. “C’mon! Just one more?”

“You’ve had almost half of them!” Dexter held another out for him, but instead of taking it with his hand, Colin snatched it with his teeth, grinned with it between them, and then made a show of pulling it into his mouth. “You dork. Seriously.” He looked next to him where Liz was, and then across the table at Shaun and Dante. “Where the hell does he put all this?”

Dante threw his palms out. “Yo, I’ve been trying to figure that out for years.”

“Yeah,” Shaun said, a hint of scolding there in his voice. “And he shouldn’tbe eating it.”
