He still stood by the open door, lightheaded and dizzy. Colin probably hadn’t even gotten down to the sidewalk yet.
Dexter briefly considered going after him, then changed his mind. It’d do no good. Instead, he yanked out his phone, knowing he probably wouldn’t get an answer, but sent Colin a quick text anyway.
Dexter: Are u gonna be ok?
Dexter spent a few seconds staring at the screen as though that would somehow make a response appear. Make that little symbol with Colin’s name pop up on the screen. It wouldn’t. With a sigh, Dexter closed the door. Turned around. Looked up. Felt his heart fall to his feet.
He wasn’t alone. Daisuke, face hard and eyes like stone, stood there in the hall glaring at him.
“I…Suke…”
Daisuke said nothing. He just licked his teeth and disappeared back into his bedroom, slamming the door behind him.
“Fuck,” Dexter swore, pushing his head back up against the door. “Fuck.”
