They received a rowdy round of applause when he blew some—attempted—enthusiastic kisses and waves. Right before Maya would tap out the tempo for their first song, Dexter whirled around to stop her.
“Hang on,” he told her and Maddie. “I’m gonna…just gimme a sec, kay?”
Giving them no chance to reply and no further explanation, Dexter stepped up to the mic and the first round of stage fright he could ever remember bubbled through him.
His eyes sought out the only person who mattered right now. Colin wasn’t talking to everyone anymore and, if Dexter wasn’t imagining things, it looked like he was trying not to glance up at him. He did though. Colin caught his gaze and the second he did, Dexter started playing. He played the song only he and Colin knew.
Dexter only got through the first few lines of Colin’s Songbefore Colin shot out of his chair and bolted out of the bar.
