Chapter 31

He watched as Arliss and Josh exchanged glances, trying to read the look that passed between them. He didn’t want to believe their eyes were communicating something along the lines of “Humor the jealous boyfriend.”

“Sure, honey,” Arliss said, a little uncertainly. He turned to Josh. “I’ve got your card. I’ll get back to you.”

“Sure thing. Call me anytime—but make it soon.”

Arliss nodded to Josh and turned to Sean. “Are you okay, hon?”

Sean, in fact, was not okay. He could feel a tension headache beginning at the back of one eye, as though there was a little man hidden in his brain and he was taking a pickaxe to the hidden side of his left eye. “I’m fine. I just want to get home.”

“Okay. Can I maybe say good-bye to Emmett and some of the guys?”

“I’d rather just get out of here, if you don’t mind. I don’t feel so good.”
