Sean worked his way to a dark passage that led to a smaller back bar, where more porn was being shown and men moved against one another in shadowy corners.


He found Rory leaning against a wall in one of those corners, a beer bottle gripped in his fist. He might have been present physically, but his eyes and expression were elsewhere. He looked almost vacant, eyes glazed and face sweaty, even though the back bar was not especially warm.


Sean made his way over to him. Rory looked at him briefly, and no flicker of recognition crossed his features.


“It’s me. Sean. We talked earlier tonight in the front bar.”


Rory stared at him, as if he was trying to place him. “Yeah? So?”


Sean cocked his head. “Don’t you remember? We talked about Bad Moon Entertainment?” When Rory looked blank, Sean prompted further, “My boyfriend is supposed to be in one of their movies—the latest one. You warned me. Said it was bad news or something.”
