“Come on, we have to get out of here.”
Ryan didn’t argue, though the girl leveled Johnny a hard stare. Staying low, the three crawled toward the lobby, straightening only when they reached the door. As difficult as it was, Johnny loosened his hold around Ryan’s back before they stepped out. People spilled out of the ballroom, more than a few noticing him as they emerged.
Surprisingly, the girl reacted first.
“This way.” She angled toward the front desk rather than the elevator. Faster than June could break away from the pack and stop them, the clerk ushered them through a private employee exit with instructions on how to get to the service elevator.
Johnny tugged Ryan to a halt once they were alone. “Are you okay?”
Gingerly, Ryan touched his face. “I don’t even know what happened back there.”
“I do,” the girl said.
“Who are you?” Johnny said.
“And what was the deal with that kiss?” Ryan demanded.
