“You’ve probably just been on the road long enough to forget what it’s like having someone like your mama or aunt or the like bossing you around.”
“It’s been longer than you think,” Kenneth muttered. His attention was drawn to Leon, and the fear that had been hovering over him descended onto his shoulders once again. “He’s going to be okay, right?”
“I wouldn’t lie to you about something as important as a man’s health.” Amy leaned forward and touched the edge of a bandage, testing its temperature. “We just have to make sure he understands that if he tries to use it too soon, he’s going to risk breaking it all over again.”
“Hopefully a bit of common sense will overrule his stubborn streak. Though I have a feeling you don’t let anybody stay too stubborn for long.”
She rewarded him with another small smile. “Life’s too short to act foolish. But something tells me, that’s a lesson you’ve already learned.”
