Chapter 46

“Yes,” Todd said and gave Nick a stern enough look that when he opened his mouth to speak, he closed it again. The glare Nick offered Todd wasn’t concealed in the slightest. “I’m just a bit stiff from sitting so long.”

The town appeared the same as it had during their first trip through a few days prior. Todd guided the carriage along the streets until they came to the church, making a casual pass to check out what activity there might be going on that day. The back of the church where Nick had seen suspicious goings on was visible from their vantage point.

There was no way to drive around to the back without being noticed by anyone there. Todd didn’t want to take the chance they’d be recognized, so he kept on driving past the church and turned the nearest corner. He continued until they were beyond the first cross street and pulled the carriage to the side of the street.
