Chapter 68

Todd could tell Nick was less anxious about the situation. He hoped his mate could accept the possibility they might not find Jah’lar. Nick settled down beside Todd, and the two of them pressed together for warmth. Despite the tunnels being secluded, they still worried a fire would give away that they lurked inside. The way the tunnels were situated there wasn’t much that would go on at the depot they wouldn’t hear. Unlike some of the bigger depots, there was no large building where the passengers waited. It was simply a platform with a roof to provide an outdoor sheltered boarding area.

The pitch black of the tunnels at night was barely beginning to lighten to a murky gray when there was the distinctive sound of footsteps approaching the tunnel entrance. Nick shifted, lifted his hands, and rubbed at his eyes. He fisted the material of Todd’s shirt and tugged very lightly.
