Chapter 69

Cargo cars were the same everywhere. Once they were checked over and loaded, usually no one paid much attention to them. The cargo might vary from train to train, but the security almost never did. This particular train car was filled with crates of books, desks, and carriage parts as well as some of the passengers’ baggage.

They stayed out of sight, which wasn’t difficult in the cargo car, until the train pulled away from the depot. Once it reached full speed, Todd and Nick moved carefully from the cargo car to the passenger cars. Tickets had already been verified, and none of the train porters would think much of two men moving from one passenger car to another, as long as they didn’t call attention to themselves.
