Chapter 9

“You saw a blonde girl dressed like that? Have you looked into me at all, researched me? You could have found out I was a cop easily, and that my dad was in the Army.” Ronan clearly doesn’t believe him, not from the questions he’s asking, and he doesn’t seem to like him, but the mention of the little girl seems to have shaken him. He hadn’t seen a woman in Ronan’s life but there had been flashes of masculine energy and Dustin wonders if the detective might be gay.

“I had no reason to look into you. Until you said your name was Ronan Bayne, I didn’t know who you were, and your name isn’t attached to the investigation,” Dustin points out.

“I only just got asked to help with this case, so there hasn’t been time for reporters to find out and do a story about me. Okay, you didn’t know who I was, or that I was working on this case. I believe that much—doesn’t mean I trust you, or even believe you are here to help. Why are you here?” Ronan still seems on edge.
