Chapter 23

“I think, given that we are hunting a mystery monster that has ten women captive, I’ll let that go. Not that I encourage people to break the law. I was a cop once.” Most of the time, Ronan is firm on upholding the law. But sometimes the law hasn’t caught up with the world they are living in—it’s certainly not designed to deal with the paranormal.

“Why did you stop being a cop? It seems like you love that kind of thing. And at the police station yesterday you fit in, it was like you belonged there.” Dustin sounds curious.

“I wanted to help people, so I became a cop, but as a cop I couldn’t go after the supernatural. The government knows that there are things that exist in this world that most people think are just stories, but they refuse to acknowledge it, they think it’ll cause a panic. So cops’ hands are tied. I didn’t like that. I wanted to be free to investigate anything. I hate not giving people the tools to defended themselves,” Ronan explains.
