Chapter 32

“Did it bother them that you changed your surname?” Ronan asks.

“No, I think they preferred it; it meant when I got in the papers for helping the police on cases no one linked me to them. It’s better for everyone this way; I don’t embarrass them, and I don’t have to live with the pressure they used to put on me,” Dustin sighs.

“I’m sorry your family life is like that,” Ronan says softly.

“It’s okay, I don’t need them.” Dustin doesn’t really miss his parents, because he was never close to them. It had always been like living in a house with strangers who were constantly disappointed with his every action.

“Seems we both don’t have much to do with our families,” Ronan says as Anne brings out their food.

“No we don’t, for different reasons,” Dustin says, digging into his food. He’d read Ronan, but only briefly so he didn’t get details like this and he feels like he has more pieces of a complex puzzle.
