Chapter 65

Dustin is feeling relaxed, until he senses the mood in the room shift. Ronan’s emotions are strong enough that Dustin can pick them up; he’s upset and pissed off. Dustin sits up in Ronan’s bed and looks at him sitting on the edge of the bed. He can only see Ronan’s back, but that is tense.

“All right, we’ll be right there,” Ronan says, and then he hangs up.

“What happened?” Dustin asks.

“One of the women, Charlotte Carter, they found her body this morning.” Ronan sounds pissed off, and Dustin doesn’t blame him. He feels a little sick knowing he hadn’t seen anything that helped prevent this.

“I thought the Sanguisdemon kept its victims?” Dustin doesn’t get it. He’d thought they had time, it feels like a gut punch.

“It kills them eventually, uses them up. I said we’d go down to the crime scene. They’re not going to move her until we get there,” Ronan explains.
