Chapter 81

“Of course not. It’ll be worth driving you there and back just to see a smile on his face for once,” Chris says happily.

“You don’t have to bring me back, I can make my way,” Dustin offers.

“If Ronan doesn’t drive you back, I will, and that’s final,” Chris says.

“Thank you, you’re really good to Ronan.” Dustin smiles.

“I care about him like one of my own,” Chris admits.

“He needs that—people who care,” Dustin knows neither he nor Ronan had good family lives, but their lives were very different. Dustin’s parents are still alive, happy to pay him any amount he wants, as long as he doesn’t show up and ruin their perfect social life.

“He does. Maybe you can be one of the people looking out for him,” Chris suggests.

“Maybe.” Dustin would like to be in Ronan’s life, but life doesn’t always work out the way he wants it to. He knows that, but he’s still hopeful.

“Are you ready to go?” Chris asks.

“Yeah, let’s go.” Dustin nods. They take the kittens and head to California.
