Chapter 13

Daniel couldn’t help it. The silliness of the image of Karden teasing him with the shiny metal clip suddenly struck him. An almost cough of a laugh escaped his lips before he could stop it. Daniel placed his hand to his mouth to prevent his laughter from breaking through, but Karden raised an eyebrow in a way Daniel found unbearably adorable, and the smile erupted across his face as laughter spilled out.

Karden’s jaw dropped open in response. “Aw man,” he cried and threw his arms up before wiggling the clip at Daniel. “No fair pulling the god-like smile on me.” He gingerly placed the paper clip back into the dish and shook his head in mild disgust.

“The…the what?” Daniel asked, the smile slowing receding.

Shaking his head, Karden said, “You should really save that ‘I’m too beautiful to be human’ smile for when you really want something from people, not over a little paper clip.”
