Chapter 14

“A little obvious with this one, aren’t we, Daniel?” Sury asked, eyebrow raised.

Daniel marched past her, shouting, “Like I have a say in it!” He stomped up to Karden just as the storm descended up them. Amid the whipping winds, he shouted, “Just give me the flowers and then go.”

Karden smiled softly. “No flowers today, Dany. There’s no time,” he said, his voice clear over the howling gale. The storm whirled around them, blotting out everyone else. Karden dropped the hose and reached up to place a hand on Daniel’s cheek. Closing the gap between them, he brushed his lips lightly against Daniel’s once, then again. The breath rushed from Daniel’s lungs as he froze in place, the only movement the widening of his eyes.
