Chapter 22

Daniel’s eyes snapped to Paulo. “You are crazy if you think this is Ctesibius,” he whispered.

Paulo threw his arms around Daniel, his laughter filling the room. “Yes, yes, my darling boy!” he pulled away only enough to place his arms on Daniel’s shoulders and draw him near again. “This is a sketch of the very first clock that replaced the sun dial.”

“Paulo, there is no way,” said Daniel, glancing down at the paper.

“Ahem,” Kar cleared his throat.

“Ctesibius was an Egyptian inventor,” said Daniel.

“Greek inventor,” interrupted Paulo.

“Egyptian under Greek-occupied Egypt,” Daniel shot back. “He is credited with making the very first clock that used falling water to move dials. People no longer had to use sun dials. He supposedly wrote a book…well, really it was a sketchbook…of his ideas. It was published under the title Memorabilia. It inspired countless inventors, but no copy had ever been found.”
