Chapter 27

Standing inside the doorway, he took a slow breath. “Hey,” came Kar’s quiet voice. Daniel stiffened in response. “You okay? I didn’t mean to upset you, Dany. I was just trying to see you smile.”

In the tight confides of the doorway, Daniel felt Karden’s nearness. He nodded absently. “I’m fine. I’ll get the wine,” he turned to go, but Kar gently grabbed his arm.

“Dany, really, I’m sorry,” he said, the earnestness in tone keeping Daniel from pulling away.

It was trying to find a way to tell my uncle he was dying of cancer when I was only fourteen,” he took a shaky breath. “It’s getting endless glimpses and flashes of the lives of strangers. Sometimes, it’s just too much.”
