Chapter 47

After several flight delays and endless hours waiting for a connection, by the time the plane touched down, even the excitement of the codex was losing out to Daniel’s need for sleep. Kar looked to be in the same boat, barely mumbling a greeting to the driver John sent for them. Daniel fought to stay awake as the car moved from the lights of Cardiff to the night-shrouded hills of the Wales countryside. The driver pulled off to a gravel road just before Daniel felt himself sinking into sleep and stopped in front of a looming manor house. They stumbled inside to see the main room sporting carved, dark-wood furniture. Daniel decided the decorator was either a hunter or someone with a penchant for artwork with wild deer. A shapely older woman with fiery red hair stood smiling at the door.
