Mandy squeezed his arm. “Don’t worry about it. I’m sure it’s just an oversight. Maybe I’ll just give him another call.”

Leo nodded. “You do that. He’d like that, I’m sure. Sounds like he needs someone to talk to.”

“I didn’t mean anything by that—”

“Completely fine,” Leo said. “No worries. But I should go catch up with Gordy before he tries to hitchhike home or something.”

“Yeah, sure, of course,” Mandy said, already backing away. Regret was written all over her face. “Please don’t mention any of this to Jeff. I can’t help but feel like I wasn’t supposed to say anything.”

Leo shrugged. “Why would I? If he wanted to talk to me about it, he would have.” He waved. “Thank you again. Good luck with it all.”

He didn’t look back when she called, “You, too!”
