“This your thing?”

His palm was so sweaty that he almost lost the handle when Gordy pulled it from the other side. He gripped it and pulled back, keeping the door nice and tight against the doorframe, doing his best to smile at the super the whole time. “Just one second, Gordy,” he said, keeping his voice bright and cheerful. “I need a minute here.” He turned back to the super. “You’re not starting here, are you?”

Suspicion darkened the super’s man’s expression. “I am.”

“Ah, oh boy.” Leo blew a long breath and pointed at the door. “Yes. Yes, this was my, uh, my ‘thing.’” He finger-quoted the word with his free hand. “I guess we, uh, we didn’t think you would be up here so quickly.”

“Well, you got the notice.”
