“Hey,” Samir said, grinning. “Scaredy baby much?”

“You…damn, kid! You have the stealth of a phantom!”

“Whatever. I want to see it. I saved your ass from the super and I—”

“Oh, my God, Samir, the swearing. We’ve talked about this!”

Samir frowned. He stared at Leo directly, with a look that Leo had no doubt would one day wither both enemy and frenemy alike. “I saved your butt,” he repeated, “and I want. To seeit. You owe me.”

“See what?” Leo threw out both arms, hoping he was lending credence to his upcoming lie through exaggeration. “There’s nothing to see! Gordy’s apartment? His plant? What, Samir? What is it you want to see so badly?”

“The body!”

“There’s no damn body!” Leo hissed louder than he meant to. “Not with the mats, not now, not ever! Do you have any idea how badly something like that would stink by now?”

Samir rolled his eyes. “Not if it was in the freezer.”
