Chapter 49

“I got her!” Leo hissed, jumping after Belinda who, free from her captors, was bounding down the hallway in a series of jumps that were loud enough they could have been a dozen running children. “Belinda!” he stage-whispered. “Get back here!”

He dashed to the end of the hallway where she stood at the fire door, and he managed to get all the way down the hall and in front of her before she scooted past him again. She hopped back to Gordy’s end of the hall, the hallway ringing with the boing, boing, boing of the floor. She didn’t take a single step. Every move was a bounce of glee. It was a mock. It was a “catch me if you can!”

Gordy stepped through the doorway with both arms out, clucking and cajoling, and she spun without breaking stride. With a wide smile and her eyes half-closed, Belinda came side-bouncing/dancing back to Leo.
