Chapter 9

Zeke calls Brenton, who says he’ll have the doorman let them up. When the reach Brenton’s apartment, Brenton opens the door and lets them in. His place is huge and fancy, but as Brenton leads the way to his kitchen table, Zeke spots lots of pictures and more homely touches.

“Would you two like some coffee?” Brenton asks.

“Always, yes, please.” Zeke smiles.

“Yes, please. I’ve only had three cups today. Cops live on coffee,” Andy says happily.

Brenton asks how they both like it and fixes three cups of coffee before sitting down opposite Zeke and Andy. There’s an envelope on the table. Zeke guesses it may contain the photo.

“Mr. Randall…” Andy begins.

“Call me Brenton. Mr. Randall is my dad.” Brenton shakes his head.

“Brenton, then. Zeke’s told me what you told him, but I’ll have to ask you to cover it again,” Andy says, taking a notebook out of his satchel.
