“Good night,” Zeke says with a warm feeling in his chest. He opens the door while he still has some control left.
“Night,” Brenton calls after him, and Zeke waves. Not trusting himself to speak, he leaves.
As he walks back to his room, Zeke’s willing to admit to himself that he’s smitten with Brenton, and it wouldn’t take too much for that feeling to grow deeper.
He gets a blast from the past that steals his joy when looking at the local paper. Tom Ford, his high school attacker, has been killed in a freak accident in his garage. He doesn’t know how to feel, and vows to keep it to himself for now as he doesn’t want to upset things with Brenton.7
“Donnie and I are having a movie night. Want to join us?” Jed asks.
Brenton looks up from the book he’d been reading. He hadn’t even seen Jed walk into the sun room.
