Chapter 7

The little brat pushed between them and waved at the movie star. “Hi there!” he called out in a falsetto, then ducked back and disappeared.

Dan’s mouth opened and shut a few times, then he growled, “Put it back the way it was or I’ll, so help me God, I will…” but he was interrupted by the newcomer.

“Where do I put my things? I was promised there would be a special place here for me. I can’t—deal with all these—commoners.”

“You’re thinking of hell,” said Max quietly, “A special place in hell.” He had his hand on Wade’s shoulder.

Dan blushed and groveled. “It shall be as you wish, sir,” he babbled, blushing. The kids giggled and had to hide their faces. Okay, yes, they are all adults, but when Dad is around, they all act like kids—which they are, compared to him.

Wade shut the door in his father’s face. Eye rolling ensued, but Max and Shane started sliding the temporary room dividers around, making just one of the rooms private again.
