“I like this. You being so picky, correcting me on everything. You must be feeling better.”

“Yeah, I guess I am feeling a little better.”

It wasn’t a lie. He always felt better when he had a plan. The fact his plan had a very good chance of succeeding only helped. Occasionally, a reasonable sounding voice would try to cut into his good mood and remind him that no matter what Gideon he found in which dimension, the vampire wouldn’t be his.Wouldn’t be the one he really wanted. The same held true for Emma. But given the alternative—being completely alone—he didn’t think he really had a choice.

“But only a little. So don’t do anything to get on my nerves.”

“Well, now that’s not any fun.”

“I don’t recall promising you any fun,” Jesse said lightly. “But that reminds me. I think we should find a safe place for you to watch. I don’t want you to end up in a dimension without shrimp or something.”
