Chapter 25

“Michelle’s kid? No. She’s not part of the deal.”

Dominique glared up at him. “I’m not a kid. And I’m not Michelle’s.”

“I know this is putting you in an awkward position,” Jesse said softly, “but I’d like Dominique to stay with me. I don’t trust her safety with Michelle right now, and I’m not going to make her go back to that house.”

“That’s dumb, you know. You want away from Michelle, taking her kid is the best way to keep her on your tail.”

“Dominique’s just as much a victim of all this as Jesse is.” Gideon’s support wasn’t a surprise, though the way Dominique stiffened against him said she thought it was. “And you won’t have to put up with us for long.”

Foster still looked like the whole idea left a bad taste in his mouth, but slowly, he dropped his arm. Dominique ducked inside before he could block the way again, casting one last mistrustful scowl up at him.
