Chapter 33

“There’s a lot more to it than that…”

Every electronic beep from the monitors on the other side of the room made Gideon’s skin crawl. But those were nothing compared to the fury coursing through his veins. If he hadn’t promised not to create a scene, he’d throw Michelle through the hospital window and live with whatever consequences came from it.

“You don’t need to be here, Michelle. Don’t you have a store to run?”

Michelle didn’t back down or flinch from Gideon’s hard tone. “You’re not the only one who loves Jesse. I need to be here. I have every right to be here.”

“For what? You’re not a doctor. And you’re not family. You’re in the way.”

“I can still help him. And we don’t have a lot of time. Stop being so stubborn and put Jesse first for once.”

His eyes narrowed. “What do you mean, you can help him? The doctors said his internal organs are failing. They barely got his lungs working again. What can you possibly do to fix this? Turn back time?”
