“I don’t know what’s going on, either,” she said distractedly. “You’ve been a Guardian here for years. Ever since…” Her gaze slid toward Gideon for a split second before she released Jesse’s arm and stepped away. “Can you stay for a while? I’d like for you to come home with me so I can call my Jesse. Maybe he can explain this for us.”

They needed help, and at that point, Jesse was willing to take it from any quarter. But he was beginning to feel like he couldn’t trust anybody in any dimension, except Gideon and Dominique. He looked over Grace’s shoulder to Gideon, hoping the decision wouldn’t be his alone.

“We don’t want to bring any undue attention to you,” Gideon said carefully. “We’d be grateful for any help you can offer, but you should know it might be dangerous doing it. There’s no telling when or if Foster or Michelle might find us.”
