Chapter 46

He caught Jesse’s wrist before he could pull away, lifting it up and across his body in order to get his injured arm closer to Gideon. With a quirk of his lips, Gideon bent his head and dragged the tip of his tongue along the edge of the slice, holding back the urge to vamp out as the tangy blood hit his taste buds.

Jesse sucked his breath in sharply, and Gideon sensed his pulse increase. In so many ways, Jesse was still like a regular mortal. His heart still beat, still responded to physical stimulus. He still breathed, and judging by the plates he had noticed that morning in the sitting room, he still ate. And he still responded to Gideon’s mouth the same way.

“That stings,” Jess murmured, though he didn’t pull away.

“Oh.” Gideon inched his mouth upward to the other side of the cut, but instead of repeating the motion, he looked up at Jesse through his lashes. “I guess that means I should stop. Wouldn’t want to push my boy too hard our first day back together.”
