“I’ll get the curtains,” David volunteered.
“Come on,” JT said, “I’ll show you where we’ll be working.”
Jesse wanted to make sure Gideon made it into the flat without turning into a pile of dust, but JT was already walking away, clearly expecting Jesse to follow. He threw a quick smile over his shoulder to Gideon—who did not smile in turn—and hurried after JT. He shouldn’t have been surprised when he ended up in a library. It wasn’t large, despite the size of the flat, but the ceiling was high and every single inch of space was fully utilized. Jesse thought of his own lost books with a pang. In the year since the fire in the apartment he shared with Gideon and Emma he had accumulated a fair number of replacements, but not this many. Not anything like his old collection.
