Chapter 63

“I’ll get the curtains,” David volunteered.

“Come on,” JT said, “I’ll show you where we’ll be working.”

Jesse wanted to make sure Gideon made it into the flat without turning into a pile of dust, but JT was already walking away, clearly expecting Jesse to follow. He threw a quick smile over his shoulder to Gideon—who did not smile in turn—and hurried after JT. He shouldn’t have been surprised when he ended up in a library. It wasn’t large, despite the size of the flat, but the ceiling was high and every single inch of space was fully utilized. Jesse thought of his own lost books with a pang. In the year since the fire in the apartment he shared with Gideon and Emma he had accumulated a fair number of replacements, but not this many. Not anything like his old collection.
