Chapter 64

“How many weapons are there like this?” Jesse asked, once the hurlbat was unwrapped between them. “Where did they come from?”

“Seven. Entrusted to the oldest or most powerful Guardians.” Opening the top drawer of the desk, JT took out a pair of gloves, handing one over to Jesse to use without looking away from the silver weapon. “They were said to have been forged from the stuff of dimensions themselves. When the first Guardian was appointed. Nothing can break them, and only Guardians are intended to handle them unscathed.” He smiled a little when Jesse glanced at the glove he’d slipped on. “Just to be safe.”

“So they’re weapons forged for Guardians to wage war on other Guardians? Is that seven total, or seven per dimension?”

“As far as I’m aware, seven per dimension. Seven across an infinite number of dimensions would make them rather ineffective, don’t you think?”

“True. But why do they need to be effective? Do Guardians often go rogue?”
