Chapter 65

Jesse automatically put his hand out to brace himself against the wall. For a split second, the ceiling and walls and floor lacked definition, and he wasn’t sure if he was standing or sitting. As soon as the world steadied, he couldn’t help his smile.

“How did you do that? How can I do that?”

JT laughed. “Practice.” He pushed the door open, ignoring the swivel of Gideon’s head as he looked between the pair of them re-entering the flat and the closed library door. “But you won’t be able to go very far until the transfer of power is complete between you and Michelle. I’ll bet it probably exhausted her to move you and Dominique so far.”

“I think you’re right. She looked…ancient. Definitely like she didn’t have much energy left.” Just enough to block his memory, apparently. “Is it magic? It didn’t feellike magic.”

“No, but…” JT looked to Gideon long enough to make his uncertainty clear. “Let’s go back in the library and talk about it, all right?”
