“Fine. What do you do with your time when people aren’t entering and exiting the dimension?”

JT regarded him steadily for several seconds before letting him go. “I draw an official paycheck as David’s secretary. But that’s mostly for show. The bulk of my time that’s not dedicated to Guardian responsibilities is spent studying.”

“That’s good. That means I don’t have to abandon my other responsibilities.”

“What other responsibilities?”

“The ones I have to Gideon Investigations. I don’t just sit around and look pretty all day, you know. Gideon makes me work for my bread.”

“Oh, right. But…that’s good. Good. And it’ll help with the other Guardians, I’m sure.”

“Stopping demons, vampires, and psychopaths from killing innocent people and gaining more and more power?” Jesse nodded. “Yeah, I’m sure that’ll help make everybody’s lives easier.” He set the slim journal aside and reached for a new book. “Well, let’s get down to the nitty-gritty here.”
