But he couldn’t live with Dominique, Grace, and David on his conscience. And he knew now without a doubt that he couldn’t even function without Gideon.

“Tell him he has a deal if he gives me proof that all of you are safe.”

She repeated Jesse’s words. Jesse waited, but Dominique didn’t add anything more, remaining silent as if in her own state of stasis.

JT’s gasp jerked Jesse’s attention to the side, and he looked over in time to see JT crouching down at a bleeding David’s side. “Is he there?” Dominique blurted over the phone. “Tell me you got him, Jess. And he’s not inside out or anything like that.”

“He’s here. He’ll be fine. He’s bleeding, though. Is anybody else bleeding?”

“Gideon, but—”

“You got your proof, Jesse.” Foster’s voice caught in, sounding as relaxed as it had back in their dimension. “Five minutes. Then you get ashes.”
