Chapter 14

“Or maybe I would’ve decked you because you were the only one who could see through my act.”

“If it got me a kiss, it probably would’ve been worth it.”

His teasing tone was so different from when he’d been talking about his dead boyfriend, Jett had to join in and laugh with him. They relaxed as their drinks arrived, turning to more innocuous topics as Jett tested out each beer. Jett talked about some of the bad dates Tatum had tried setting him up on, while Trev told stories about groupies that occasionally showed up at the store, giving credence to the way the clerk had treated Jett. Jett cringed at how desperate some of them seemed to be, though Trev never did more than poke light fun at the worst of them. He still acted a little shell-shocked that he had any fans at all, an attitude Jett didn’t get.

“I lost my football scholarship because of that damn song,” he commented as they were finishing up their lunches.
