Chapter 16

He seemed startled when she closed the distance between them. She had to stretch a little to press a soft, unassuming kiss to his mouth, but before it became awkward for him, she stepped back.

“I got what I wanted. I’m only sorry it was probably more fun for me than it was for you. But oh well. That’s the way it goes, isn’t it?”

Brandon caught her elbow before she could turn back to the door. “It wasn’t. I mean…trust me, it wasn’t like that at all.”

She tried not to smile. He looked so earnest. It was really no wonder she’d fallen for him. “So you didn’t come to my cabana with the sole purpose of keeping me occupied?” she teased.

“Well, yes, that was the point. But you said that like it was some sort of chore for me. It wasn’t.”
