Chapter 56

As quietly as he could, he slipped in through the bedroom door and lifted the cover to get inside when Arlo turned and rubbed his chest. Nash watched the motion.

“Did it go well?”

“Eh…what?”

Arlo didn’t open his eyes. Instead, he curled into Nash. “I’m not stupid, you know.”

“I never believed you were.”

“So what were you doing?”

Nash remained silent for a few seconds. “Just went out for a bit.”

Arlo stroke his chest again. “You went pretty far.”

Nash narrowed his eyes. How could he have known? “Do birds mate?”

“Since new birds constantly hatch into this world, I’m pretty sure they do.”

If it hadn’t been Arlo being more asleep than not, Nash would’ve tickled him. “I meant, do they stay together?”

Arlo groaned and hid a yawn behind his hand. “Swans mate for life.”

Nash flicked a tress of Arlo’s white hair between his fingers. “Are you a swan?”
