“Hang on a second. Look at this,” Jayden says, angling his laptop screen so that they can see it too.
“Is that the symbol?” Chogan asks.
“I think so.” Jayden nods.
“What does it say about it?” Elijah asks.
“Black magic. Used by skin-walkers. They sacrifice a person to turn into a wolf. That explains the different wounds and the fur in the forest,” Jayden says.
“So this person is human?” Elijah asks, trying to rack his brain for what he knows about skin-walkers. From the legends, he’s heard the person uses a wolf pelt and magic to take on the form of a wolf.
“Yes, the magic they’re using must be what’s causing the weird feeling in this town,” Chogan says.
“Call Joshua. Tell him we know what’s killing people,” Jayden suggests.
Elijah picks up his cell phone and calls his dad again, and again he gets no answer. Something knots in Elijah’s stomach. His dad never ignores his calls unless something’s going on. He hasn’t been in contact for hours now.
