She considered the face of the girl who stared back at her from several angles, pulling at the skin under her eyes, examining the space between her teeth, until, finally assured that there was nothing terrible in her reflection, she filled the sink with warm water and began her daily routine.

It took an hour, and the insistent bleat of her phone once again, before Sally Schmidt registered that today was her day off and she had simply failed to mute her alarms after the excitement of the previous few days.
