Chapter 36

“Now,” Sam said, breaking through his thoughts, “I better get inside and sort things out.”

He offered a wave, stopped, and offered Jude a further grin.

“I don’t think I gave you my full name. I’m Sam Rabbinovitch. Well, Rabbi Rabbinovitch, if you want to get technical, but you know, sometimes it’s easier to talk without getting official about it.”

Jude laughed and shook his head.

“Rabbi Rabbinovitch, that’s a fitting name.”

Sam shrugged.

“It is what it is. What’s that saying you folks are fond of? The Lord works in mysterious ways.”

Jude nodded and flicked his cigarette to the ground.

“Now that I can certainly believe,” he agreed.

And with a wave, Rabbi Samuel Rabbinovitch dug his hands in his pockets and made his way across the parking lot, whistling merrily as the sun set before him.
