He didn’t need a lot of time or energy to answer. Title VII of the Civil Rights Act specifically prevents employers, even religious organizations, from refusing to hire people based solely on the fact that the recruit does not share the employer’s religious beliefs. This has generally held up in court in several “lifestyle” cases, particularly in recent years for LGBTQ+ employees of religious schools as well as for unwed mothers and non-Christian employees of Christian institutions. While some parts of the current Administration are working hard to gut Title VII, they’re meeting with less success than attempts to gut other parts of the Civil Rights Act.

Blake knew all of that. He’d fought against attempts to overturn those same Titles—most of them, anyway. Was he reaching out to Nick just to have a famous talking head’s name to put in front of her?

Whatever. Nick refused to think too much about the reasons Blake did things anymore.
